Abstract

1361877 Coated sheet material EASTMAN KODAK CO 18 Nov 1971 [19 Nov 1970] 53639/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] An image-receiving material for a photographic diffusion transfer process comprises in order (1) a support having a polyolefine surface, (2) a layer comprising a cellulose ester, and (3) an image-receiving layer. The polyolefine may be self-supporting or on paper (e.g. having a backing of superposed black and white polyethylene layer), may be clear or pigmented, and is preferably treated to render its surface more hydrophilic. Subbing layers may be provided between layer (2) and layer (1) and/or (3), and layer (2) may contain a colourant, brightener or plasticizer. In the Examples, white polyethylene coated paper (1) which may be subbed is coated with a layer (2) of cellulose triacetate which may be mixed with carboxylated polyester or of cellulose acetate/butyrate which may be pigmented, then subbed with hardened cellulose nitrate/gelatin, and then coated with (3) Pd nuclei in gelatin or a dispersion of octadecyl tributyl ammonium bromide mordant; the polyethylene may be subbed with hardened gelatin/cellulose nitrate, poly(vinyl methyl ether/maleic anhydride), polyvinyl pyridine, carboxylated polyester or polyurethane.
