Abstract
1361848 Quenching apparatus K J B WOLFE and J D LANE 29 Sept 1971 45292/71 Heading C7N A quenching apparatus has a tube 4 suspended in a tank 1, a basket 10 having a perforated base 11 being held in the tube 4 above a Venturi type insert 8. Quenching fluid enters the tank from nozzle 14, flows up the tube and through orifices 6 which are provided with deflector plates 7. The flow from nozzle 14 induces a circulatory flow of the fluid filling the tank. The fluid overflowing at 15 can be passed through temperature regulating means before being returned to nozzle 14. Articles to be quenched are fed to tundish 12 and are suspended or their descent is retarded in tube 4 by the upward flow of fluid.
