Abstract
1361672 Couplings HORSTMANN CLIFFORD MAGNETICS Ltd 13 March 1972 [30 March 1971] 8127/71 Heading H2A [Also in Division G3] A magnetic rotor drive mechanism for converting oscillatory movement into rotational movement comprises a ferromagnetic rotor 1 having peripheral projections 4 and an annular member 2 with magnetic poles or teeth 6. The member 2 is mounted on the free end of a tine of a tuning fork 3 and thus oscillates parallel to the axis X-X of the rotor. The projections 4 are staggered, Fig. 3, to define a circumferential air gap 5, and the numbers of projections 4 and teeth 6 are selected so that additive coupling occurs and the rotor is maintained in motion by oscillation of the member 2. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown), the member 2 comprises two C-shaped members (2A, 2B) magnetized with opposite polarities by a magnet carried by the tuning fork 3. In the embodiment of Fig. 5 (not shown) both projections 4 and teeth 6 extend perpendicular to the planes of the rotor 1 and member 2.
