Abstract

1327043 Clocks HORSTMANN CLIFFORD MAGNETICS Ltd 7 April 1971 [12 Jan 1970] 1340/70 Heading G3T In a driving arrangement for a clock having an electrically maintained member which is magnetically coupled to a rotor via a wavy track and oscillates parallel to the rotor axis, the magnetic reluctance of the median portion of the magnetic track is increased as compared with the remainder of the track, in order to improve the self-starting and isochronous performance. Figs.2, 3 show a rotor formed of two toothed discs 27, 28 which are of magnetic material and are mounted on a spindle 30 with one disc offset with respect to the other. The oscillating magnetic member is in the form of a ring 31 and has teeth 32 cooperating with the magnetic track formed by the disc teeth. Further embodiments are described in which the toothed rotor discs are spaced apart by a disc magnet (49), Fig.4 (not shown) and cooperate with an oscillating member (50) of high permeability, or in which the rotor consists of two star-shaped magnets (54, 55) Fig. 5 (not shown) sandwiched between retaining members (58, 59). The rotor may also be formed by a crinkled disc (80) Fig. 7 (not shown) whose periphery is provided with a central groove (84) and which co-operates with an oscillating magnet (82). The wavy magnetic track may also be formed on the oscillating member and Fig. 6, (not shown), shows an annular oscillating element (65) which includes a ring magnet (69) and has the wavy track formed on its inner surface which surrounds the rotor (76). Other embodiments are described using a rotor comprising two crinkled discs (150, 151) Fig. 9 (not shown) or spoked discs (157, 158) Fig.10 (not shown) spaced apart on a common spindle (152) and co-operating with an annular magnetic oscillating member (153).
