Abstract

1359521 Load handling pallets T MUNROE 13 Aug 1971 [13 Aug 1970] 38191/71 Heading B8H A pallet which is moulded from a resin impregnated wood fibrous material comprises a deck member 15 which is of corrugated crosssectional configuration and defines longitudinally spaced and downwardly projecting parallel ribs 16 between which are formed grooves into which are fitted projections 37 which are formed in the side walls of elongated leg members 25, 26, the said leg members being secured to the under surface of the deck member 15 by a water resistant adhesive. The inner side wall of both the leg members 25 and both of the side walls of the leg member 26 are inclined relative to the bottom wall of each leg member, said leg members 25, 26 being formed with recesses 34 which permit entry of the forks of a lift truck. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the opposite ends of the pallet are reinforced by a metal frame (55) and in a further modification, Fig. 6 (not shown), a channel member (64) extends between two of the ribs in the deck member and defines a laterally extending slot for receiving a strap or band (not shown), for securing a load of cargo to the deck member. It is possible to increase the longitudinal bending strength of the pallet by inserting a plank-like reinforcing member (50) within each of the said leg members, Fig. 7 (not shown).
