Abstract

1359390 Screw presses NIPPON STEEL CORP 28 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971 (3)] 59841/72 Heading B5F [Also in Division B3] In a forging screw press the flywheel 7 is driven by at least one linear motor 19. The flywheel drives a screw shaft 8 which may be in screw threaded engagement with the frame 1 for vertical movement of the press head 5. A plurality of motors 19 arranged around the periphery or top of the flywheel may be mounted on a support 20 mounted on the shaft for vertical but not rotational movement therewith. Alternatively the motors may be mounted on the frame with the flywheel have an axially extending flange around the periphery. In another embodiment the shaft is not vertically movable but is screw threaded to the press head. When the press head actuates a lower limit switch 24 the linear motors are reversed to raise the shaft and when an upper switch 26 is engaged the flywheel is braked by the motors.
