Abstract

1358629 Tray and cover METAL BOX CO Ltd 26 Feb 1973 [5 June 1972] 26184/72 Heading B8P A paperboard cover for a plastics thermoformed tray comprises a top panel 1 which can be torn along lines of perforations 2 and slits 3, and locking panels 9 which are hinged to the lower edges of side panels 6 and are folded upwardly into the cover. The free edges 10 of the panels 9 engage downwardly facing surfaces formed on the tray to secure the cover to the tray. The downwardly facing surfaces may be part of a step 13 in the tray side walls, the under. surface of a flange (15, Figs. 6 and 7) extending outwardly at the top of the tray or recesses (16, Fig. 8, 17, Fig. 9) in the tray bottom or at the junctions between the tray side walls and bottom. The depth of the side panels 6 may be greater than that of the tray (Figs. 7, 8 and 9). The tray includes egg-receiving pockets 12.
