Abstract

1358253 Jig for use in hand sawing G W WYNN 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970 1 March 1971] 46068/73 and 46069/73 Divided out of 1358251 Heading B5L A jig for use in making a saw-cut in a workpiece has saw guide means comprising a guide member 12 defining a guide plane for the saw blade, and means for abutting a face of the workpiece to locate it at a predetermined angle relative to the guide plane. The guide member 12 comprises a pair of elements 14 held spaced to define a gap for insertion of the saw blade, one of the elements having a surface facing the gap defining the saw guide plane, and the other element comprising resilient means adapted to urge the saw blade into contact with said surface. As described the jig comprises fixed and movable cross-members 2, 6 respectively each carrying a saw guide member 12, 12a having a wear-resistant plate 16 defining the surface against which the saw blade is urged by a nylon strip 20. The jig has holes DP1-DP8 in which round or square section pins, e.g. 22, may be placed to assist in locating a workpiece at a selected angle relative to the guide plane for mitre or dovetail cuts. The depth of cut is controlled by an adjustable stop 44. A selector head 38 as described in the parent Specification 1,358,251 may be used with the jig for cutting recesses in a workpiece. A clamp may be provided on the member 2 for holding a workpiece whilst it is cut longitudinally.
