1358252 Jig for use in hand sawing G W WYNN 19 April 1971 [20 Feb 1970 1 March 1971] 46066/73 and 46067/73 Divided out of 1358251 Heading B5L A jig for use in making a saw-cut in a workpiece comprises a saw guide member 12 defining a guide plane for the saw blade, means, e.g. a cross-member 2, for engaging a face of the workpiece to locate it at a predetermined angle to the guide plane, and a device 30 for positioning the workpiece in a direction transverse to the guide plane. The device 30 has a limb 36 extending parallel to the guide plane, and a limb 32 which extends transversely to the guide plane and is received in a guide 10 in the member 2 so as to be adjustable toward or away from the guide plane and securable in a selected position. As described the jig comprises fixed and movable cross-members 2, 6 respectively each carrying a saw guide member 12, 12a having a wear resistant plate 16 against which a saw blade can be held by a nylon strip 20 or a spring loaded plate. The jig has holes DP1-DP8 in which round or square section pins, e.g. 22 may be placed to assist in locating a workpiece at a selected angle relative to the saw guide plane for mitre or dovetail cuts. The depth of cut is controlled by an adjustable stop 44. The device 30 may carry a selector head 38 having a pair of blades 40a, 40b which have one surface lying in a common plane and can thus be used in forming a recess of a desired width adjacent the end or intermediate the length of a workpiece, the blades allowing for the width of the saw kerf. One of the pins used in locating the workpiece may carry an eccentric block to vary the angle of the cut, and wedges may also be inserted between the workpiece and its locating means. A clamp may be provided on the member 2 so as to hold the workpiece thereagainst whilst sawing along, or almost along the longitudinal axis of the workpiece. In this case device 30 may be inserted in slot 60 to act as a vertical guide.
