Abstract

1323992 Treating waste liquids WASTECH Inc 13 Jan 1971 1600/71 Heading C1C An apparatus for the biological chemical or biochemical treatment of waste water comprises a chamber C in which the water is treated (e.g. aerated or treated with chemicals) in tank T which has a sedimentation zone 21 for receiving liquid from chamber C and controllable rotatable tubular arms 25 connected to chamber C, extending into zone 21 to allow a controllable flow of liquid and solids to be returned from zone 21 to chamber C. In the embodiment shown chamber C is an aerating zone and has a perforated ring 14 and perforated tubes 14b for introducing gas (e.g. O 2 , air) into the chamber, liquid inlet pipe 10, stirrer 40 and discharge outlets 15 controlled by adjustable weir rings 15a. Zone 21 is divided by baffles 50 having removable lower portions 50a. The lower portions of wall 20 of zone 21 may be removable. The zone 21 has an annular discharge channel 55 for supernatant liquid, the discharge of liquid being controlled by adjustable weir 62, and discharge pipe 81 for solids. Chamber C is provided with annular track 33 which engages idler rollers 34 and driven roller 35 when chamber C floats during aeration. Alternatively chamber C may have a track supported on rollers. The rollers are supported on walkway W mounted above tank T.
