Abstract

1357884 Adjustable plug gauge R GREENWOOD 29 Sept 1971 [6 Oct 1970] 47503/70 Heading G1M An adjustable plug gauge comprises a frustoconical member 4 threaded on a spindle 1, and a plurality of strip-like gauging blades 6 engaged in grooves 5 in the surface of the member 4 extending parallel to the spindle axis, so that on rotation of the spindle the member 4 moves axially and causes radial movement of the blades, the blades being clampable in any position between relatively-movable locking ring 9 and end plate 10. The blades, whose outer edges 7 are parallel and define the size of the gauge, are retained by shells 12 secured to the frusto-conical member and extending into grooves 11 in the side surfaces of the blades. The blades may either be expanded and clamped when in position in a bore and their separation subsequently measured with a micrometer, or the effective size of the gauge may be set before use. In the latter case two gauges (30), (31) may be secured on a common spindle extending on either side of an adjustment means (32), as in Fig 3 (not shown), to form a "go-no go" gauge.
