Abstract

1356104 Edge filters STELLA-META FILTERS Ltd and J F ANNETT 22 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 31241/70 Heading BID An annular, inward flow edge filter intended to support a filter aid layer comprises a stack of flat washers or a helical coil of flat sectioned strip, the washers or turns of the coil being spaced apart by projections 12 which extend from one flat face thereof, and these projections are semi-circular in form and extend across less than 60%, preferably less than 50%, of the radial width of the washers or coil, outwards from the inner periphery. This construction ensures an even coating of filter aid on the outer periphery of the filter. Washers as in Fig. 1 are made by cutting and stamping a helical coil into closed split-rings. A helical coil (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) is wound after flattening and forming the projections on a wire in one or two operations, the coil being supported in use by an internal array of rods (26).
