Abstract

1356026 Casting processes J E RASMUSSEN 18 May 1971 15459/71 Heading B3F [Also in Division B5] In a casting process in which the mould block 24 is made by the lost wax process, the said mould block is mounted in a vacuum chamber 26 so that the mould cavity 36 is in communication with the atmosphere and the casting material is sucked into the cavity by evacuating the chamber 26. The mould block 24 is provided with a flange 28 which, on lowering of the block into the chamber 26 through an opening in the top thereof, abuts sealingly against the surface of the chamber about the said opening. The flange 28 may be cast integrally with the mould block or it may be constituted by a metal ring mounted on the mould block. The mould block is cast from a slurry of quartz and plaster of Paris.
