Abstract
1355890 Solar cells FERRANTI Ltd 24 April 1973 [29 April 1972] 19983/72 Heading H1K In a solar cell comprising a rectangular semiconductor wafer with a P-N junction extending parallel and close to the whole of one face the electrode on that face masks 0À7 to 2À5% of the junction area and consists of a bus-bar adjacent one edge of the wafer and a series of uniformly spaced fingers at most 0À2 cm. apart extending normally from it to points adjacent the opposite wafer edge. As described the junction is formed by diffusion into a 2 cm. square 10 ohm. cm. silicon wafer and the electrode, which masks 1À5% of the junction area, consists of copper and has 24 tapering fingers spaced 0À08 cm. apart and having a thickness of 6Á and a mean width of 10 Á.
