Abstract

1355052 Ear plugs METAL BOX CO Ltd 25 Aug 1971 [1 Sept 1970] 41805/70 Heading A5R An ear plug 10 comprises a stem 14 open at either one of its ends and having transverse fins 15, 16 thereon, two ear plugs being joined together by a headband 11 in the form of a tube, to form an ear plug set. The fins engage inside the aural canal of a user and are arranged to increase in diameter away from the free end 17 of the stem, and the stem is flexible so that it can follow the shape of the canal. The fins may have splits (18) to enable a closer fit to be achieved. A flange 20, stiffer than the fins, may be provided to limit insertion of the plug into the aural canal. To attach the plug to the headband 11, a socket 21 is provided with which the headband engages. A ball and socket connection, or a separate connecting piece (29), Fig. 6 (not shown) may alternatively be used. The tube 11 may be made from polypropylene, and the ear plugs 10 from soft material such as ethylene vinyl acetate or rubber. If less attenuation is required, the ear plugs may be joined together by string.
