Abstract

1354351 Injection-moulding screw-threaded members CABLE SUPPORTS Ltd and S A BRADBURY 17 Aug 1972 [18 May 1971] 15622/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] To form a screw-threaded member such as a nut 14 or bolt 19 having a metal reinforcing portion 15, 22, e.g. of high tensile steel, enclosed by a fibre-reinforced rigid plastics material, e.g. nylon reinforced with fibres of glass or carbon, the metal reinforcing portion is supported in a mould cavity having the inverse pattern of the desired member, fibre-reinforced plastics material is injected into the cavity to cover the reinforcing portion, the member is removed from the mould, and the hole or holes where the reinforcing portion was supported are sealed as by ultra-sonic welding. In the formation of a nut 14 a separate annular insert is pressed into and welded to the main portion of the nut, the thread being cut after the insert has been inserted.
