Abstract

1353531 Knitting machines SHIMA IDEA CENTER CO Ltd 17 June 1971 28552/71 Headings D1C and D1K A parallel flat knitting machine has, in addition to the normal yarn feed, a vertically movable yarn feeder 25 1 , 25 2 which is also movable horizontally and has a plurality of spaced feeding pipes 28 1 , 28 2 arranged above one of the needle beds and supported on feeding beams 27 1 , 27 2 which move the free ends of the pipes 28 1 , 28 2 up and down between adjacent needles of either bed the pipes and needle 'beds also being movable horizontally relative to one another so that yarns from the pipes can be fed across groups of needles. Needle beds 3F, 3B are movable longitudinally (R-L) and slightly transversely (U-D). Needles 5F and jacks (not shown) each with a high or low butt are mounted in the front needle bed 3F and needles 5B adapted for loop transfer and each with a single high butt are carried in the tricks of bed 3B. A racking device for moving needle bed 3F right and left comprises a helical cam 8 engaged by a pair of rollers 9 supported on a connecting rod. Cam boxes 11F, 11B for the two beds 3F, 3B are connected by rods 13F, 13B to a connecting member 4 sliding on rails (not shown) leaving a space 12 between them. Yarn feeders 18 1 -18 4 comprise rods 19 1 -19 4 with guides 17 1 -17 4 sliding on rails 20, 21 above bed 3F and controlled by device 22. Beams 27 1 , 27 2 are keyed together for relative longitudinal movement and are movable about shaft 24 by a linkage. Cam box 11F of bed 3F has symmetrical guide cams 67F, 68F on either side of needle cam 66F with respectively guide cam 79 and transfer cam 77F with an associated transfer guide cam 78F. Cams are also provided to control the jacks for patterning. Cam box 11B for bed 3B has a knitting cam 66B and cams 77B, 78B for transfer. All the cams in boxes 11F, 11B are controlled e.g. by pattern drum and push rods. Various fabrics may be produced with laid in areas and with wale wise openings Figs. 10 and 8A for example.
