Abstract

1352288 Imidazole derivatives RHONEPOULENC SA 6 Sept 1972 [9 Sept 1971] 41329/72 Heading C2C Novel imidazole derivatives of the formula wherein R is H or C 1-4 alkyl and X is NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>, wherein R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> each are H or C 1-4 alkyl, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting imidazole derivatives of the above formula in which X is halogen, phenoxy or benzyloxy with ammonia or amines of the formula HNR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>. 2 - (2 - Methyl - 5 - nitro - 1 - imidazolyl) - 1- methylethyl phenyl carbonate is obtained by reacting phenyl chloroformate with 1-(2-hydroxypropyl)-2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole. Pharmaceutical compositions, suitable for oral, parenteral, rectal or topical administration, contain at least one of the above novel compounds or non-toxic acid addition salts thereof in association with pharmaceutically acceptable carriers or coatings. The compounds possess antiprotozoal activity.
