Abstract
1351967 Starting prime movers TOYOTA JIDOSHA HANBAI KK 28 Oct 1971 [25 Dec 1970] 50265/71 Heading H2H [Also in Division F1] A control system for a vehicle having an internal combustion engine comprises means for sensing depression of the accelerator pedal and means for sensing the road speed of the vehicle, a starter motor energized in response to the accelerator pedal sensing means, the starter motor being de-energized when the engine is rotating and a circuit arranged to maintain operation of the vehicle ignition circuit whilst the vehicle is moving and to disable the ignition circuit when the vehicle stops moving whereby to stop the engine. A further means for sensing depression of the clutch pedal may be added to the accelerator pedal sensing means to control the energization of the starter motor. Should the vehicle be stopped on an incline means are provided to maintain operation of the ignition circuit and thereby rotation of the engine. Rotation of the engine is also maintained for a predetermined period of time after the vehicle has been brought to an emergency stop. Further means are provided to maintain rotation of the engine when the vehicle is brought to rest should the temperature of the engine cooling fluid be below a predetermined temperature. The system may be adapted to be used with a vehicle having an automatic transmission.
