Abstract

1462697 Engine control circuits NIPPONDENSO CO Ltd TOYOTA JIDOSHA HANBAI KK and TOKAI RIKA DENKI SEISAKUSHO KK 22 May 1974 [24 May 1973] 22948/74 Heading B7H An automatic vehicle engine control system including a starter energizing circuit 200, for activating a starter motor 4, a starter cut-off circuit 300 for disabling the motor 4 in response to engine rotation, a control circuit 100 for controlling the engine in response to the driving condition of the vehicle which circuit is coupled to a first switch 27 and a second switch 29 adapted to be sequentially operated by a clutch pedal to respectively operate the circuits 100 and 200 and a sensor 25 for detecting movement of the vehicle and for maintaining operation of the engine during such movement regardless of operation of the clutch. With the vehicle stopped and ignition and manual switches 2 and MS on, a self holding relay 10 is energized to connect the source 1 to the engine control system by way of a contact 11. Initial depression of the clutch pedal closes switch 27 rendering transistor 116 non-conductive and energizing relay 101 to connect the source 1 to the ignition circuit 3. Further depression of the clutch pedal closes switch 29 and transistor 204 becomes non-conductive so that starter relay 201 may be actuated along with starter motor 4. As the engine rotates voltage appears at alternator 305 and the starter relay 201 is deenergized to cut supply to the motor 4. On releasing the clutch pedal and depressing the accelerator, switches 27, 29 open and switch 26 closes thus maintaining the non-conductive state of transistor 116 and keeping relay 101 operative. A movement sensor 25 maintains operation during movement of the vehicle when the accelerator is released. When the vehicle is stopped on a level surface and the clutch released the engine stops automatically after a predetermined time. If the vehicle is arrested on a slope a level sensor 28 closes and the operative condition of the engine is maintained. Engine operation with the vehicle at rest may be continued regardless of the position of switches 27, 29 by accessory, reverse drive and turn indicator switches 21, 22, 24 which may be engaged at will. Furthermore if the engine temperature is above or below predetermined values the operative condition is maintained by a switch 23 regardless of all else.
