Abstract
1351721 Turbines HOLLYMATIC CORP 25 Sept 1972 44147/72 Heading FIT [Also in Division F2] A gas, e.g. air, driven turbine comprising a hollow rotor 20 having at least two peripheral walls 57 with spirally shaped internal surfaces 25 leading to tangential nozzles 29 for the discharge of gas supplied to the rotor interior from an inlet duct 18 in a stator casing end-wall includes a floating seal ring 32 to prevent gas leakage through the gap between duct 18 and rotor 20. As shown seal ring 32 is mounted in a recess 31 in the end of rotor shaft 21 and its end-face 36 is acted upon by gas-pressure so as to urge the ring into engagement with endwall surface 17, the rotor thus rotating about the ring. In a modification Fig. 5 (not shown) the seal ring is mounted in a recess (51) in the casing end-wall and is urged by gas-pressure towards the rotor, the seal ring thus rotating with the rotor. The latter may be of nylon and the seal ring of phenol-formaldehyde resin. In other respects the turbine is similar to that described in Specification 1314137.
