Abstract

1314137 Turbines HOLLYMATIC CORP 30 July 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 35928/71 Heading F1T A turbine operable with gas or liquid includes a hollow rotor 17 having at least two peripheral walls 19, 20 with spirally shaped internal surfaces 26, 31 leading to tangential nozzles 22, 23 for the discharge of working fluid supplied to the rotor interior 18 through a central port 40 and an axial duct 35 in the end wall of casing 16. Rotor 17 may be of plastic or nylon formed in two parts 37, 56 screwed to a steel shaft 13 having an end portion 38 shaped to direct the working fluid radially outwardly from port 40. Shaft 13 is mounted in bearings 14, 15 and has a screwed end 55 to receive a collet, e.g. for a small grinding tool. To assist replacement of the tool, flats 43 are provided on shaft 13 to engage a locking member inserted through slot 44 in handpiece 48. The latter includes angularly spaced flanges 50, 51 which respectively support bearings 14, 15 and provide spaces for the flow 49 of a small proportion of working fluid for cooling purposes. The remaining fluid leaving rotor 17 exhausts through ports (34), (47) Fig. 4, (not shown) in the casing end wall. Casing 16 and handpiece 48 may be of aluminium.
