1351061 Knitting-machines CAMBER INTERNATIONAL (ENGLAND) Ltd 5 March 1973 [11 March 1972] 11496/72 Heading D1C In a circular machine the jacks 13 are housed in' a separate cylinder 14 and selected by pairs of slides mounted in blocks 18 around the cylinder, the selection movement being transmitted to the needles and amplified by levers 22. Vertical movement of the jacks forces the upper ends 13b against the levers near their fulcra 22b so that the far end 22a engaging needle butts 11b are raised a distance d'. The blocks 18 accommodate a tuck slide 19, and a knit slide 20. for each jack butt level. The jacks may be inclined or have. inclined ends 19a, 20a Fig. 4 for raising the butts, and are urged into operative positions by springs 21. The slides comprise a hardened forward part FP and an interlocking tail TP. The tails include depending tabs 25. The slides are selected by a comb 24 which has a series of teeth (24a Figs. 5, 6 not shown), notched at the roots and at half-way for easy breakage. If a tooth is entirely removed both slides are urged forward for a knit selection. If half the tooth is broken the tuck slide only can be advanced; while an intact tooth prevents the advance of both slides. The block 18 comprises a bank of plastics laminae welded together between base plates 28, 29. Plate 29 is slotted so that the block can be slid forward on pins 30, 31. Its location is set by a spring urged pin 32. The jacks are reset by a cam 37 acting on butts 38. The pattern can be over-riden and all jacks lifted to a knit position by movable cam 39.
