Abstract

1350746 Controlling vehicles A P PEDRICK 2 March 1973 10226/73 Heading B7H [Also in Divisions El and G4] A control light 7, actuated by a vehicle passing over it, is raised from the road and illuminated to provide a vertical light signal which automatically actuates a deceleration control on a following vehicle. The deceleration control may interrupt the ignition. The light control comprises a magnetically operated switch 12 which is closed by a vehicle passing over it to complete a circuit to a heating element in an expansible fluid. Expansion of the fluid raises the light 7 and closes switches 18, 19 in circuit with the light to illuminate the latter. The light remains illuminated for a limited time which is inversely proportional to the speed of the vehicle passing over it. Rubber shutters 5, 6 clean lenses 3, 4 of the light when the latter is raised and lowered. The light 7 additionally provides a visible warning to following traffic that there is a vehicle ahead.
