Abstract

1350491 Protective arrangements WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 16 Aug 1971 [14 Sept 1970] 38310/71 Heading H2K A circuit arrangement for protection against under or over excitation of a plurality of polyphase power sources connected in parallel, comprises a circuit 12 for developing for each of the sources a first direct voltage V1 proportional to the difference between the reactive current of each source and the mean reactive current of the parallel sources, a circuit 14 for deriving a second direct voltage V2 proportional to the rectified voltage of the sources, a circuit 16 for producing a sensing voltage V3 proportional to the sum of V1 and V2, and circuits 66, 68 for comparing the voltage V3 with a reference voltage, e.g. from a D.C. supply 22. The output signal from either of the circuits 66, 68 may energize a trip coil of a circuit-breaker 4 to isolate a given generator 1. The circuit 12 may comprise a transformer 31 connected across an "equalizer" loop 13, 15 and to a clipper demodulator circuit 36, and a transformer 35 connected across the phases other than that associated with the loop. The voltage V1 from this circuit is applied through a resistor 47 to a terminal 56 also connected through a resistor 59 to the common junction of rectifiers 50 ... 52 which derive the rectified voltage V2. The resulting voltage V3 at the terminal 56 is applied to a circuit 18 which has a voltage sensing portion, a delay circuit portion 65 and a voltage detector portion 66, similar to the circuit of Specification 1,157,733, the output from the circuit 18 indicating an over-excitation fault. The voltage V3 at the terminal 56 is also applied to the voltage detector 68 which provides a signal indicating an under-excitation fault.
