1349646 Folding thin material TIMSONS Ltd 15 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 29808/70 Heading B8R A folding apparatus of the kind comprising a pair of jaws adapted to be opened and closed on to a sheet or sheets of paper or like flexible material to form a fold therein has at least one of the jaws either made of, or including a layer of resiliently deformable material, e.g. rubber, rubber and cork, neoprene rubber or plastics material, such that variations in thickness of the paper or flexible material can be accommodated by deformation of the material. The jaw may contain a layer of rubber between two layers of steel. A resilient jaw 4 fixed to a substantially cylindrical component 3 is housed in a longitudinal bore 2 of a rotatable cylinder 1 of a printing machine, and moved to and from a fixed jaw 5 by oscillation of the component 3, this oscillation being effected via an eccentric and crank or a fixed cam track (8), Fig. 1 (not shown), and follower (7). A blade (11) may urge paper 10 into the open jaws, the rubber of the resilient jaw increasing the frictional grip of the jaws on the paper.
