1,273,582. Printing apparatus. P. R. KANTOR. 27 May, 1969 [27 May, 1968], No. 26799/69. Heading B6C. An inking or dampening roller, 8 has two helical surface discontinuities 16, 17 of opposite hands and joined at their ends. The discontinuities 16, 17 may be grooves, with lands 30 between them, or may be ridges. The rollers may be of an ink-receptive or of a waterreceptive material, and may have a surface of ink-receptive material such as copper, brass or polytetraflurethylene, with recessed bands or water-receptive material such as chromium. Alternatively the surface may be waterreceptive, with recessed ink-receptive bands or raised ink-receptive strips. In use the rollers is laterally reciprocated in contact with a roller R. The roller 8 may be part of a combined inking and dampening system in a lithographic press.
