Abstract

1348669 Traverse cams E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 19 April 1971 [11 Feb 1970] 21439/71 Heading D1J Yarn 15 is laid on a package 7 by a camdriven traverse guide 33 such that the radius of the mid-portion (about 50%) of the yarn reversal curve varies less than 10%. The specification derives the relationship between the cam reversal curve and the resultant yarn reversal curve in terms of the "uncontrolled length" U (Fig. 3) of yarn between the guide and the package, this relationship being that the first derivative of the reversal portion of the cam track is directly proportional to the sum of the first derivative of the yarn reversal curve plus the product of the second derivative of the yarn reversal curve and the "uncontrolled length". It is also stated that, to avoid slippage of the yarn along the package at the reversal, the radius of the yarn reversal curve should be greater than the radius of the package divided by the coefficient of friction of the yarn.
