Abstract

1347678 Stud-and-socket fastenings CHRYSLER UNITED KINGDOM Ltd 13 July 1971 [2 Sept 1970] 41922/70 Heading E2B [Also in Division A3] A safety belt anchorage comprises a bolt 10 screwed at one end into an anchor plate assembly 11 on a vehicle body and having a head 12 at the other end, a sleeve 13 fitted on the bolt between the head 12 and the plate 11, the sleeve having a lower portion 16 of similar diameter to the bolt head and an upper portion 15 of smaller diameter than the bolt head, and a plate 17 secured to one end of the safety belt, the plate having a slot 18 with a portion 20 which can be slipped over the bolt head and a portion 21 of smaller diameter than the bolt head in order to retain the plate on the bolt, the slot portion 21 engaging the portion 15 of the sleeve 13 and the underside of the bolt head, the bolt being retained in the slot portion 21 by a resilient plastics member 22 consisting of a base resting on the plate 17, a leg 23 integral with the base extending downwardly through a rectangular aperture 23a in the base and the slot portion 20 to engage the underside of the plate 17 by means of an ear 25 on the end of the leg, a tubular spigot 30 on the underside of the member 22 snugly engaging the slot portion 20, an arcuate recess 28 at the end of the member 22 abutting the bolt, and arms 29 at the ends of the arcuate recess which embrace the bolt and are fitted under the bolt head. In an alternative embodiment, (see Fig. 5 not shown), the arms 29 on the retaining member 22 are omitted and the underside of the arcuate portion 28 is chamfered so that the arcuate portion fits under the bolt head. In a further alternative embodiment, (see Fig. 7 not shown), the end of the retaining member abutting the bolt is straight and the spigot on the underside of the member consists of a depending skirt having arcuate and straight edged portions fitting into corresponding portions formed in the slot in the belt attachment plate 17.
