Abstract

1347255 Injection moulding window frames G K N SANKEY Ltd and ARO PLASTIC BUILDING SUPPLIES Ltd 3 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 33955/71 Heading B5A A window is made by injecting, at low pressure, a gasket 14 of synthetic polymeric material and of U-section around the edge portions of a sheet of glass 10, and then placing the gasketed sheet with its edge portions in a mould 17, 18 so that the mould parts engage the gasket, and injecting at higher pressure a synthetic material into the mould so as to form a frame in which the gasketed edge portions are embedded. The edge portions of the sheet 10 may be coated with an adhesive 11 before the gasket material is injected. The gasket may be flexible, e.g. a polyester resin or a P.V.C. organosol or plastisol. A reinforcing frame 21 may be held in place by pins 22 engaging in recesses 23 in the frame. The pins 22 may be withdrawn before injection is completed so that the voids left by the pins are filled up. Alternatively the pins may remain in position until the end of the moulding cycle, leaving bores to be sealed with bushes as in Specification 1,347,254.
