1347240 Making annular clutch plates and seal rings D C NORRIS & CO Ltd 14 May 1971 [18 Feb 1970] 7788/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division F2] A method of making a metal ring, e.g. a clutch-plate or seal ring, wherein the ring is severed from an edgewise wound helical coil of metal strip comprises cutting the ends of the ring to form co-operating male and female portions which hold the ends together. The ring may have either or both the inner and outer edges splined or in the case of a seal ring both edges plain. The male portion may be formed as a circular or square headed lug or be in the form of a dovetail. More than one male portion may be formed on one end or each end may have a male portion, Figs. 2a-2d (not shown). The male and female portions may also be tapered in cross-section to resist separation in one direction perpendicular to the plane of the ring, Fig. 2e (not shown).
