Abstract

1346707 Lamps WELCH ALLYN Inc 19 Oct 1972 [8 May 1972] 48254/72 Heading F4R [Also in Division A5] An instrument assembly includes a battery case 16 and covers 17, acting as a handle for two electrically illuminable heads 18, 19, secured pivotally to the case so that they may be folded from a position within the case (Fig. 2) to an operable position (Fig. 1). The heads may form an ophthalmoscope 18 and an otoscope 19, each containing a lamp bulb connected via a printed circuit board to a battery 26. Each head is pivotable about trunnions, attached to a slip ring 29, located in pillow blocks 28, the head having a member 45 engaging a hexagonal hole 27 in the case and cover in the operational position. One contact 60 in the connection between the battery and bulb may be made to the end cap 41 only in the operational position, the contact otherwise contacting an insulating portion of the head. The other contact to the bulb is made via a trunnion and slip ring contacting a conductive member of the head. The bulb may be replaced by removing the end cap 41. In an alternative arrangement one of the heads may comprise a miniature flashlight.
