Abstract
1346438 Refining copper or copper alloys OLIN CORP 8 June 1971 [29 July 1970] 19506/71 Heading C7D A molten mass of copper or copper-base alloy is deoxidized by adding a lanthanide metal, the deoxidizer being provided in rod or wire form and clad with a protective material to prevent reaction of the lanthanide with air prior to its introduction into the melt. A preferred deoxidizer is misch metal clad with copper and provided in continuous lengths for feeding into a molten stream of metal. An excess of the lanthanide metal may be used to provide a residual amount in the final product.
