Abstract

1346322 Welding by pressure and fusion; making surface hardened metal plate KOBE SEIKOSHO KK [trading as KOBE STEEL Ltd] 11 March 1971 6560/71 Headings B3A and B3R [Also in Divisions C7 and E1] Titanium, zirconium or an alloy thereof is surface hardened by provision of a surface layer of metastable beta titanium or zirconium alloy which is aged to precipitate the alpha-phase or the omega-phase. The surface layer may be alloyed with Mo, V, Fe, Cr, Mn, Nb or Ta. The coating may be applied by diffusion welding, explosive pressure welding or by deposit welding.
