1345874 Anti-snaking arrangements for vehicle hitches GIRLING Ltd 25 June 1971 [17 July 1970] 34864/70 Heading B7T A vehicle hitch comprises a ball 3 having a stem 4 rotatably mounted in a bracket 1, there being secured to the stem one end of a damper 12, the other end of which is fixed to a towing vehicle on which the bracket 1 is mounted, and a socket 8 connected to a trailer vehicle is prevented from relative rotation with respect to the ball about a vertical axis by pin 7 entering slots 9 in the socket, whereby the damper acts directly through the ball and socket to control rotation of the stem 4 and hence angular movement between the towing and towed vehicles about a vertical axis but does not interfere with over-run and relative movements of the vehicles about the pitch and roll axes. In a modification the damper 12 is replaced by a rotary damper.
