1344388 Shaft seals V GALLINO & C SpA 19 April 1971 [17 Feb 1970] 24452/71 Heading F2B An oil seal for a sliding shaft comprises a casing 3<SP>1</SP> enclosing a seal element of elastic material having two axially-spaced lips of sawtooth formation, the lip 7<SP>1</SP>b remote from the oil side of the seal having a greater rigidity than the other 7<SP>1</SP>a. The seal element may be made of rubber in one piece; alternatively, it may be made in two, the lip 7<SP>1</SP>a being made of a harder material than that of the lip 7<SP>1</SP>b which serves as a grit excluder. The easing may consist of two parts 3<SP>1</SP>a, 3<SP>1</SP>b of plastics material and a retaining ring 6<SP>1</SP> for the seal element. A sealing boot may be fixed at one end to an extension of the casing part 3<SP>1</SP>b and fixed at the other end to the shaft 1.
