Abstract

1344220 Cutting apparatus ITEK CORP 31 Aug 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 40357/72 Heading B4B A cutting mechanism for cutting, e.g. photographic film comprises a first blade 12 fixed to a frame member 15, a second blade 14 secured to one of the ends of a pair of springs 16, 18, the other ends of the springs being secured to the frame member 15, the mounting being such that the blade 14 can be moved relative to the blade 12 to effect a cut without any alteration of a preset shear angle between the blades. The springs 16, 18 are held together by brackets 20, 22, the bracket 20 being secured to the frame member 15 and the bracket 22 to the blade 14 via a leaf spring 24. The blade 14 is reciprocated by means of an electric motor 28 and crank drive 30, 32. In addition to the spring 24, the blades are maintained in contact by a roller 26; alternatively, the blades may be bowed in order to maintain contact, the roller then being dispensed with. In a modification the motor may be used to cock the springs 16, 18, the latter then providing the cutting force alone.
