1343835 Cigarette lighters for motor vehicles L PRAMAGGIORE 19 April 1971 [13 Nov 1970] 25287/71 Heading F4F [Also in Division H1] A cigar and/or cigarette lighter for mounting on the dashboard of a motor vehicle comprises a cylindrical casing 1 in which is mounted an electrical heating resistance 20 energized when a knob 11 is depressed thereby compressing a helical spring 13 whose staightened end 14 pivots a flat electrical contact 16 against spring bias from a position a to a position b in which latter position it contacts a resilient bimetal tongue 24 to complete the circuit, and when the resistance 20 has become red hot to light a cigarette inserted in a holder 2, the bimetal tongue 24 moves from a position c to a position d breaking the circuit whereupon the contact 16 returns to its initial position a while a striker 28 strikes a bell 29 to indicate that the cigarette has been lit. The embodiment shown has a holder 2 with a tubular sheath 6 of a diameter suitable for the insertion and retention of a cigarette but alternatively a holder may be substituted with a sheath of larger diameter suitable for cigars and having spring metal tongues on the sheath or a smaller sheath insertable therein for cigarettes. The lighter may be mounted on the dshboard by a bent round annular flange which is weakened to give way on impacts for safety purposes.
