Abstract
1343728 Fluid regulation BAXTER LABORATORIES Inc 19 April 1971 [6 April 1970] 26441/71 Heading G3H [ Also in Divisions A2 and F1] An apparatus for inparting a desired pulsatile characteristic to a fluid, comprises a pulsatile pump 12 having a flexible sleeve 44 which is contained within a tubular member 37 in a manner as to define an annular chamber 45, the chamber being in permanent communication with a reservoir 80. Oscillatory pressure applied to a line 78 of the reservoir 80 results in an alternate collapsing and expanding of the sleeve 44 and hence in a pulsatile outflow through the downstream one of two check valves 50 contained within the sleeve. Such flow then passes through a modulator in the form of a further flexible sleeve which is selectively subjectable to an oscillatory pressure applied to an annular space through a line 68. A further modulator is formed between the inlet line 34 and the upstream check valve 50, such further modulator having a flexible sleeve the inside of which communicates with inlet line 34 whilst the outside is subject to pressure pulses fed through line 76.
