Abstract

1343536 Cobalt - rare earth alloys GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 22 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 10878/71 Headings C7A and C7D A sintered product comprises a major amount of Co 5 RE (RE being rare earth, including Y) and up to 35 per cent of a Co-RE phase richer in RE than the Co 5 RE, the surface of the product being liquid-phase sintered smooth, i.e. the particles are rounded rather than angular. The alloy may be produced by pressing a mixture of Co 5 RE powder and a powder of a Co-RE alloy, richer in RE than Co 5 RE and sintering at a temperature at which the Co-RE alloy is at least partly liquid. The pressing may take place in a magnetic field. Sintering may be at 950‹-1200‹C. in an inert atmosphere.
