Abstract

1343374 Nitroglycerine compositions PARKE DAVIS & CO 17 May 1972 [1 June 1971] 23274/72 Heading A5B Storage stable pharmaceutical compositions comprise (a) one part by weight of the coronary dilator nitroglycerine; (b) from 0.5 to 0.9 part by weight of a non-volatile, water-miscible, pharmaceutically-acceptable solvent for nitroglycerine having a boiling point of at least 200‹C; and (c) from 20 to 200 parts by weight of a solid, water-soluble pharmaceutically-acceptable carrier. Solvent (b) may be a polyethylene glycol, tetramethylene glycol or pentamethylene glycol and the carrier (c) is preferably a sugar or a sugar derivative such as lactose, glucose, sorbitol, sucrose or mannitol preferably a mixture of lactose and sucrose. Sublingual tablets of the above composition are prepared by including sufficient volatile solvent having a boiling point of up to 100‹C e.g. aqueous ethanol or water to wet the mixture, forming the wetted mixture into tablets, and drying the tablets by evaporating the volatile solvent therefrom.
