Abstract

1280424 Xanthine derivatives PARKE DAVIS & CO 27 July 1970 [30 July 1969 11 June 1970] 36348/70 Heading C2C Novel 1,3-dialkylstyrylxanthines of the Formula I wherein R 1 and R 2 are each either methyl or ethyl and Ar is phenyl or 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl may be prepared by 7-methylating the corresponding 7-hydro compound in the presence of a base in a solvent or 1-alkylating the compound I in which R 1 is hydrogen under the same conditions. The starting materials for preparation of I are prepared by condensing the appropriate 5,6- diamino or 5-nitroso-6-aminopyrimidine with a cinnamyl or 3,4,5-trimethoxy cinnamyl chloride or aldehyde and cyclizing the thus formed product. Pharmaceutical compositions of I show cerebral stimulant activity.
