Abstract

1342012 Heat exchange elements STICHTING REACTOR CENTRUM NEDERLAND 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 9772/71 Heading F4S [Also in Division B2] A regenerative heat-exchanger 31 of the thermo-filament type, Fig. 1, is arranged in the upper part of a casing 1 of a centrifuge for transfer of heat between a gas mixture, introduced into the centrifuge rotor 3 through a pipe 8, and the separated components of the mixture, which after leaving the rotor flow through pipes 38-14 and 32-37. The heat-exchange elements of the heat-exchanger may consist of discs compactly stacked around the pipes and containing copper filaments in the form of a gauze. In a modification, Figs. 2 and 3, the heat-exchanger is made up of two sections 40, 41 which are separated by a wall 50 and which are subdivided by walls 44, 45 into inner parts 42, 43 interconnected by a passage 47 and outer parts 48, 49. The heat exchange elements may consist of copper filaments made into balls to form a kind of thermal sponge or combined with heat-insulating material, e.g. paper, to form gas-permeable layers. The gas mixture is fed through the parts 42, 43, and one separated component is discharged through the part 48 and the other through the part 49. The latter component further passes via a pipe 53 through a heat exchanger 58 consisting of thermo-filament material contained between lamellae 56 which may be in the form of a continuous helix or of parallel perforated elements.
