Abstract

1341771 Louvre operating mechanism INDUSTRIELE ONDERNEMING W H BRASKAMP NV 7 Sept 1971 [7 Sept 1970] 41734/71 Heading E2M [Also in Division F4] An adjustable louvre shutter includes a housing 1, a louvre 2 mounted in the housing for pivotal movement between an open position and a closed position, the louvre being biased to one of said positions and being movable to the other position against the bias by an actuating means. The actuating means comprises a frame formed by two strips 14 connected by spacing means 15-19, pivotally mounted at one end to the housing and connected at the other end to the louvre by an arm 7 which is common to all the louvres 2, and a hollow cylinder 21 connected at each end to spacing members 17 and 19. The cylinder 21 is closed at one end by a plug 22, and at the other by a pin 23 axially slidable within the cylinder 21, and mounted between the plug 22 and pin 23 is a rod 24 of silicone rubber. An electric heating element 26 surrounds the cylinder 21, and when energized heats the rod 24 causing it to expand and move pin 23 out of the cylinder 21 and cause the frame to swing upwardly about a pivot 13, moving rod 7 upwards and thus opening the louvres. A tension spring (20) is arranged between the frame and a bow 10 which urges the frame pivotally downwards about pivot 13 and biases the louvre to the closed position when the rod cools. The louvres are formed of plastics material and pivotally mounted by means of hinge pins 3 integral with the louvres. Each louvre 2 has a triangular plate 5 at one end having a pin 6 which engages in slots of the common actuating rod 7. An electric fan may be mounted behind the shutter, and connected so that the shutter is opened when the fan is switched on.
