Abstract

1341225 Sanitary napkin KIMBERLYCLARK CORP 18 Jan 1971 [5 Feb 1970] 2391/71 Heading A5R A tabless sanitary napkin comprises an. absorbent pad 12 enclosed in a fluid pervious wrapper 14 which comprises a non. woven web of fibres bonded by a water dispersable adhesive so that the napkin may be disintegrated in a sewage system. Polyvinyl alcohol with a hydrolysis between 79 and 98% is preferred for the water disposable adhesive, whilst carded cellulosic fibres are preferred for the fibre webs since they are biodegradable and will dissociate in the sewage system. A patch of pressure sensitive adhesive 18, covered by a protective strip 19 is provided at the underside of the napkin for attachment to the crotch area of an under garment. An impervious polyethylene film (20) is interposed between the absorbent pad 12 and the bottom portion of the outer wrap. In a second embodiment of the invention Figs. 4 and 5 not shown the pad is enclosed at its sides and upper surface by a fluid pervious wrapper 24) whilst the lower surface is enclosed by a plastics film (23). The water soluble polyvinyl alcohol film which is used as a baffle may be coated with varnish. Supplemental elements to the absorbent pad such as compressed pad sections or waxed side strips may be provided.
