Abstract

1341064 Selective printing NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO 2 Sept 1971 [14 Sept 1970] 40931/71 Heading B6F An on-the-fly selective printer has three printing stations for producing three separate records of a transaction, each station comprising two print hammer mechanisms 28 associated with two type wheels 30. A slidably mounted carriage 25 supports the hammer mechanisms 28 and also engages the type wheels 30 mounted together on rods 42 and slidably supported on a continuously rotating type wheel drive-shaft 41, so that the typewheels and hammers move in unison. A cam-actuated drive mechanism mounted on a cam-shaft 65 engages a pin 85 on the carriage 25 with the bifurcated end 86 of a lever 83 to reciprocate the carriage. A solenoid 74 controls the engagement of a spring clutch 70 which drives a worm gear 63 for driving the cam-shaft 65. Once the clutch is engaged, it remains engaged for 360 degree rotation of the cam-shaft causing one complete reciprocation of the carriage 25. Hammer mechanism (Fig. 2).-Each hammer (36) is actuated by a solenoid (37) and returned with a spring (36). The position of its pivot point (29), and therefore the position of the hammer with respect to its associated type wheel is varied with an eccentric (34).
