Abstract

1339854 Electromagnetic contactors SQUARE D CO 8 Dec 1971 [18 Dec 1970] 57105/71 Heading H1N An electromagnetic contactor has an insulating bore 14 having a continuous slot 38 in its near surface 36 and a plurality of spaced openings 39 extending from the slot 38 to the front surface of the base which has the blight portion 42 of a U-shaped movable contact carrier 24 in its slot 38 with portions 47 extending from the blight portion 42 through the openings 39 and supporting movable contact bridges 49 which co-operate with respective pairs of fixed contacts 41. The arms 44 of the U-shaped carrier 24 are attached to an armature assembly 46. Parts 50 extending from the base 14 receive screws 54 securing a metal shock plate 18 extending parallel to the base and supporting both a barrier member 16 and the electromagnet assembly 20. The insulating barrier member 16 is mounted between the plate 18 and the base 14 and extends from the plate to co-operate with the base to form compartments for each set of contacts 41, 49, 41. Portions 114 of the member 16 extend to provide support surfaces, remote from the base, to which a cover 22 is secured. The cover 22 is secured by screws 172 to portions 114 and has two spring loaded plungers 174, 178 which press against the encapsulated coil to hold it with projections 112 in a pair of L-shaped members 94, 96 which are secured to the shock plate 18 and serve to locate the core and yoke member 74 and guide the armature assembly 46.
