Abstract

1339615 Hydrogenating diolefins ESSO RESEARCH & ENG CO 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 24392/71 Heading C5E Diolefins are selectively hydrogenated to corresponding mono-olefins by passing a feed stream containing mono olefins, sulphur and up to 6 wt. per cent diolefins with hydrogen over a supported sulphided catalyst containing 4-6 wt. per cent Ni and 14-20 wt. per cent W at a temperature of 199‹ to 400‹ F., a pressure of 150 to 200 p.s.i.g. and with a hydrogen/diolefin ratio of 0À84/1 to 6/1. The feed stream is preferably a C 3 -C 4 hydrocarbon stream, e.g. propadiene and butadiene. The catalyst preferably has a W/Ni ratio of 4/1 to 5/1 and may be supported on alumina, kieselguhr, silica free clay, bauxite or mullite.
