Abstract

1338268 Selective hydrogenation of acetylenes DOW CHEMICAL CO 22 Oct 1971 49269/71 Heading C5E Acetylenic impurities in a hydrocarbon mixture comprising isoprene or butadiene are selectively hydrogenated with an excess of H 2 in the presence of a copper-containing catalyst wherein carbon monoxide is added to the feed to give a CO content of 0À7-15 vol. per cent. The catalyst may comprise 85-99À9 wt. per cent Cu and 0À1-15 wt. per cent of Cr, Co, Mn, Ni, V, Ti, Mo, Cd, Zn and/or Ag, optionally dispersed in an inert carrier such as aluminium silicate, brick, stoneware, pumice or porous silica. A hydrogen excess of 4-7 fold with respect to the acetylene content of the feed may be used.
