Abstract

1338534 Strip heaters GLENN ELECTRIC HEATER CORP and J J FINN 17 May 1972 [18 June 1971] 23150/72 Heading H5H An arcuate strip heater 2, for use on an extruder barrel 1, is assembled from a grooved ductile iron plate 3 having sheathed heating elements 6 disposed in the grooves 5. The surface of the heater opposite the grooved surface is held in close contact with the extruder barrel by a tension band 7 which also serves to press the elements 6 against the bottom of the grooves. During operation, temperatures above 1000‹ F. cause the iron to become brittle and permanently formed in the shape of the barrel surface.
